“Gwen Stacy”- Inspired by her intriguing character in the comics of Marvel’s Spiderman.

13 May

She’s the dead Gwen Stacy.

Just as her youthful self always whispered to her

of her future.

Apprehension stemmed

from her heart’s vast knowledge,

insight to which her congested mind

couldn’t comprehend.

And so she was hesitant,

tortured

and was hopelessly in love

with the vision of romance

that she so felt undeserving of.

She clung to that frail piece of Rope

the one that failed to save her.

You see, she never needed salvation.

She merely possessed a longing to be loved

by the one she was infatuated with.

Her personal symbol of security

The Rope snapped

and so did she.

Her body in the literal sense

And her soul in theory.

She may be a perished Gwen Stacy.

But that is not all she is.

For now her depth is as deep as the

kind green eyes she once upon a time

reluctantly fell into.

Over a delerious decade ago.

She may be a perished Gwen Stacy.

But that is not all she is.

Indeed, she has become a symbol of love and constancy. But it’s that universal feeling of being more than the sum of our parts… Nicely captured!

interesting…so you are equating your “self” to gwen stacy?
to being hopelessly lost to the thought of love…and willing to face the danger
the tragedy is in that it cost her life…

i enjoyed the movie version…read the comic version as a child…

Thanks Brian 🙂 Equating is a strong word! I guess, in some aspects I can relate to that side of her hence my description of the ”perished” Gwen. In the ”past” I was indeed ”hopelessly lost to the thought of love” and indeed took health risks in order to ”feel” some of what I thought was love. To be honest, I’m not quite sure if it was love that I was experiencing -but then again, love is something that can’t really be boxed up or labeled..it just is…Psychologist would call my type of love “infatuation”- hence one of the terms used in my work- to my friends, they look at it as ”love”, to me, well…still trying to figure that one out…honing in on all the experiences that came from my story….it is easy to dub this as ”fatal love/attraction”….something that I kept meddling with even though it destroyed me…those years of being in and out of hospitals is kind of death in itself…

Well..i love spiderman too..as i can relate to most of his personality traits from youth..but i’m not too familiar with the comic book version..and this part escapes me at the moment…

But what i can certainly relate to is the power of what is inside us vs..the power of what we think we know from culture..that we are raised in…

But i never knew the full power of it..until i escaped culture..through an unwanted severe pain disorder..that made effective use of my eyes and ears almost impossible for 5 years…

Coming out of that with new eyes and ears..in addition to real eyes and ears..

is quiet and opener of full IN sight..for what your write here..enjoyed the words…as they lit up a part of me i enjoy musing….new…

Wow, thank you so much. I’m sorry you had to go through that. I’m glad you’re okay now!! I’ve never had a physical ailment thank Gd but I do know what its like to linger in the darkness…(which did take a physical toll on my body in ways) ….coming out of that, I guess I can relate to the regaining of sight…I see things in ways I haven’t been able to in the past…glad you enjoyed my work 🙂

Being in love, with the idea of love. Now that’s a tough road to travel, for the reality probably can’t live up to it, can it? Not that I am an expert, not that I know what the heck it’s all about. Vivid images in here – and good to meet you!

I dig your interpretation on this poem.

Peter Parker will always remember Gwen Stacy in his heart. and as for love?

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.
